The ongoing practice of preparing for my death brings me to the deepest work of all: The Heart Work. Now completed are my will, five wishes, instructions for my animals, my remains, my property, each accompanied with prints and the shrouds and burial objects that I have created. Next I look inward, recording the path of the heart that stretches out before me.
Whether it is the veins of the heart or the veins of a leaf, In the Heartland series expresses an awareness of the sacred geometry of all things under the sun and the moon and the stars. Altars built to celebrate the turning of the wheel, the time of the season, are balm for The Healing Heart, sharing our inherited grief. The collages and stencil prints of A Matter of Heart illustrate the powerful connections in all relationship, the intertwining of all forms, and in the prints in The Heart of the Matter, the essence of endurance in all life. A Big Heart, as a broad consideration of the heart in its many expressions, consists of four accordion books of heart linocuts with hand-written heart phrases and idioms. And finally the prints of All Heart are in gratitude to my plants and animals as they teach me the sacred clarity of their total presence.
