The work of life includes preparing for death. I have made this process the focus of my art, in the hope of creating a responsible as well as considered practice. The Prayer Flags of cyanotypes and drawings on linen send the spirit out on the wind and the Shrouds & Burials celebrate the rituals of returning to the earth. The pragmatic details of closing up a life are included with prints in Time’s Up and of the funeral in Time’s End. Books of the Dead include my research for the handling of my remains, the beliefs of alchemy, and the spirit of my animals in books to be buried with me. With meditations on the passage of time, just bones and plant fiber are left in the cyanotypes and relief prints of Dead Matter. Good Grief and Every Dog Has Their Day honor the world of our animals and the way they teach us how to die as well as live.
